Autumn leaves in Koishikawa Korakuen

Autumn leaves in Koishikawa Korakuen

Japan is said to have very distinct and beautiful seasons, each one in its own way. And one of the most beautiful seasons is autumn. The red leaves, or kouyou, make some of the most stunning sceneries that you can see in Japan, which you can see in parks, gardens or even just walking down the streets. And today, I`m going to talk about a park that is considered one of the most beautiful gardens in Tokyo, Koishikawa Korakuen.

Koishikawa Korakuen is one the oldest gardens in Tokyo, built during the early Edo Period. The garden`s construction was started by the Tokugawa Yorifusa, daimyo of the Mito Domain and then finished by his son Tokugawa Mitsukuni with help from Ming Confucian scholar Zhu Shunshui. Being a traditional Japanese garden, it aims to represent famous Japanese and Chinese sceneries by using stones, ponds and gardening techniques. It is a beautiful place all year round but it really shines during late November and early December. The maple trees turn red and orange, making the garden a gorgeous and stunning place, great for photos and admiring the sceneries.

As someone that enjoys taking photos, this was a great place to visit. The overall environment and nature of the place allowed me to relax, enjoy the scenery and take lots of photos. I particularly liked the areas surrounding Tsuten-kyo and Togetsukyo. It had a great combination of beautiful sceneries, great colors and amazing lighting for photos. Despite being right next to Tokyo Dome City, the garden remains a beautiful and relaxing place in which you can enjoy the views and escape from the fast-paced nature of the city. This garden was definitely worth the visit and I thoroughly enjoyed my time there.
