Even in a snowy northern country overlooking the Sea of Japan, there is a tea that continues to be fragrant. It is the “Murakami Tea” which has continued since the early Edo period, in a town castle of Murakami, the northernmost part of Niigata Prefecture. In the harsh winter of Echigo, the tea plants grow vigorously in the snowy tea fields, and with the arrival of spring, the “faintly sweet” gentle tea unique to this area is produced. Eight varieties of tea leaves, which have been difficult to grow in the snowy Murakami climate until now, have been carefully cultivated to create a delicious sencha with a well-balanced rich flavor and astringency unique to green tea.
